‘Apple Pie’ Oatmeal

The first time I created this recipe I ate this for breakfast 8 days in a row… excessive, I know. I was just so surprised that something I was used to having for dessert and felt guilty afterwards could be turned into a nutritious breakfast meal.

This breakfast option is great on the go, you could make it from the night before and just heat it up when you’re ready to eat it. I personally like to make it the morning I decide to have it for breakfast just so my house is filled with apple pie aroma.

Ingredients:

  • 1 Apple (any apple of your choice, I used a gala apple but if you have a granny smith it will make it even more ‘apple pie’ like.
  • 1/2 cup of Oats
  • Cinnamon
  • Nutmeg
  • 1/2-1 cup of Water or almond milk
  • 1-2 tbsp of Flax seed (optional)
  • Brown sugar or agave (optional)
  • Craisins (optional)
  • Chopped Walnuts (optional)

You’ll notice that most of the optional ingredients I listed is merely based on taste preference. So if you’re not a fan of craisins or walnuts then opt for something else to add a bit of crunch. I sometimes add a bit of my homemade (oil free) vegan granola if I have it on hand. I do recommend to add a bit of flax seed, chia seed, or some additional source of health since this is a breakfast food.

Directions:

  1. Place a bit of water into a small pot and turn the stove top on medium heat
  2. When the water starts to heat up (almost evaporating) add 3/4 of the chopped up apple pieces
  3. Add more water if needed.
  4. Let the apples sit in the water until it gets a bit cooked down
  5. Add the cinnamon, brown sugar and nutmeg to the mix
  6. Continue to stir/ watch the pot until the water becomes a sticky consistency from the cinnamon
  7. Add the oats and flaxseed to the pot and add almond milk or water as needed
  8. Stir until the oats are cooked and the apples are mixed in
  9. Pour oats into a bowl or to-go container
  10. Add the rest of the chopped apples, chopped walnuts, craisins or granola on top.
  11. Enjoy 🙂

This recipe takes about 5-7 minutes and typically keeps me full throughout the morning, I find myself snacking less when I have oatmeal for breakfast. You could also make this for a desert and add a bit of non-dairy ice cream on the side.

“What the Health” reaction

“What the Health” is a documentary about the U.S food industry educating people on what they’re really consuming. I noticed it was recently added to Netflix so I figured why not educate myself more on the industry billions of people have faith in.

Truthfully, if you’ve never watched this documentary, I highly recommend just sitting down and taking the time to learn what goes on behind the doors of the packaged meat, dairy products, and eggs industry. NOT only that, but the documentary also covers the hidden figures who take part in convincing America that we need to eat meat and drink milk to survive.

How many of you have seen these charts?

Victoria’s Secrets are out! VS Fashion Show 2016

The Victorias Secret Fashion Show

It’s that time of year again, the VS Fashion Show premieres tonight. Although I’m sure most of us have seen photos from the show on our Instagram feed. Kendall Jenner wearing her first pair of wings, three African-American girls wearing their natural hair and Jasmine Tookes wearing the $3 million dollar 450-carat Fantasy Bra. Not to mention the performances from Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars and The Weeknd. Though I know basically everything that happens at the fashion show, there’s something about watching it anyway.

I’m so excited. It’s been a tradition for years. My friends and I watch the show and rave about the models, outfits and performances. This year VS Pink will be hosting give aways and a watch party on campus!

Rihanna-Work (Music Video) 2 in 1

rih13_vlqhbc

Ri dropped her music video for Work today and may I add it was beautiful. Maybe beautiful isn’t the right word but she gives her fans and those who are watching the video a glimpse of what a Caribbean club is like.

Note: The video is over seven minutes long for a song that a bit over 3 minutes.

The VEVO version has two music videos. The first half Ri is in a Caribbean night club obviously wining to work. She has such a cool swag, style and sexiness. Although there are many people in the frame dancing you can’t take your eyes of off Ri. After the night club video is done the song starts over except now it’s Ri in a room with Drake. This version is more stripped down and a “Drake-Style” video. Ri sings and wines while Drake sits admiring her. When he does his verse he of course incorporates his awkward famous dance moves.

Drake and Ri have so much chemistry in this video I won’t be surprised to see many tabloids rumoring that they’re together. Until then, Ri is still single and doing her own thing.

New York Fashion Week: Street Style 2016

As we all should know, it’s currently NYFW. Sadly, I am not able to attend any of the shows yet, but give me a few years and I’ll be in these slide shows. Fashion Week is like a holiday. Aside from no school or work, it is a huge celebration… in fashion of course. As the designers get ready to debut their new collections; fashionista’s from far and wide show off their style.

In college, many students throw on leggings, a patagonia sweater and bean boots. These style guru’s take dressing warm to the next level. Who says -5 degrees means dressing basic. These outfit’s are far from basic as they incorporate many different trends into one ensemble. Try switching up your daily style and add fur, coat layers or fun patterns to your winter wardrobe. I know I will.

In the beginning…

Okay, so I write in my free time and read a multitude of different fashion and hair regimen articles, I’m sure I am not the only teenager who does it. Maybe this blog could be my first step into fashion or maybe just a hobby, whatever it is I know I will enjoy it either way.

I am extremely excited right now! This is the beginning. Writing about me, what I like and how I feel. Sure it will be tied down with a few constraints. After all, this is a fashion/beauty blog. But I cannot promise I will stay inside my perimeters. Life would be extremely boring if we always colored inside the lines, right?

One of my favorite quotes is by Mark Twain,

“The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why”

(and yeah I needed to dramatically capitalize that quote)

This quote is so true, Mark Twain was stating facts. What I love about this quote is the realization of these two days. Of course when you are born people gather around to see the new born baby and celebrate with the day of your birth. But, the next most important day may not be as broadcasted. Finding out your purpose in life is just as important as being born. I believe everyone has a purpose and whether you find out at 3 years old or 92 years old, there is always a plan and purpose for your life.

Now as corny as this may sound I believe this may be my purpose, so of course I am excited to start this blog. I have been into fashion since elementary. Although I did not have as much knowledge of the industry back then I’d still pretend I had an obligation to sketch a new line of clothing for every up coming season. A child with large hair tamed by multicolored hair clips who never failed to have a paper and pen in hand. My love for fashion will always remain the same. But now I aspire to be on the business side of fashion/the entertainment side.
